Our Favorite Time of Year is Here: Bridge Pedal!

_MG_7349

Ride with us, Bridgetown!

It’s Portland Pedal Power’s fourth year participating in the awesome event that is Bridge Pedal, a unique opportunity to ride across the city’s majestic bridges, car-free. Six of our fabulous staffers will be riding the bridges on the big bikes and participating in multiple events this action-packed weekend.

During the past 19 years one quarter million people have participated in Providence Bridge Pedal, biking a combined 6 million miles over Portland’s streets and Willamette River bridges. It’s great fun; we think all Portlanders should do it at least once.

Here’s how to get in on the fun this weekend:

This Saturday we will be out at the Providence Bridge Pedal Health and Wellness Expo. This year’s event will be held at the east end of the new Tilikum Crossing bridge adjacent to OMSI. The expo will be the only place to pick up your ride (or walk) packet before Sunday’s ride. Be sure to stop by on Saturday if you want to avoid the check-in crowd on Sunday morning.

In addition to picking up your packet at the expo, you can participate in mini trike races with us, grab some swag, or win some prizes or gift certificates to Pacific Pie Company, Súpa Soup, Addy’s Sandwich Bar, and Brunch Box.

The Health and Wellness Expo will be host to booths featuring dozens of health and wellness providers. This event is open to everyone (not just Bridge Pedalers) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, and from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 9.

Also this Sunday (from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.) will be the People’s Preview of Tilikum Crossing, hosted by Providence, TriMet and the City of Portland. It’s a sneak peak for the new bridge and a chance for all community members to walk or bike across Tilikum Crossing before it officially opens in September. This event is separate from Providence Bridge Pedal, with no registration or fees.

On the day of Bridge Pedal, we will start the morning by passing out scrumptous Bowery Bagel samples to the hungry morning riders, then we will be off.

After crossing the Bridge Pedal finish line, the fun continues. All participants receive free admission to the Bite of Oregon food and music festival held in Waterfront Park.

See you on the bridges!

Celebrate Pride with a Rainbow Mimosa from Remedy!

PridePDXPride is here Portland. We at Portland Pedal Power love to take part in the annual Pride Parade. It’s a great chance to show pride in our LGBTQ community and rub elbows with the folks that help to make Portland unique.

This year, one of our favorite places, Remedy Wine Bar, will be opening early to fuel the parade marcher/goers with rainbow colored Mimosas and bagels!!  Remedy is known for its comfortable chairs and cozy living room vibe.

Located in a historical pharmacy that provided the entire western United States with cure-alls and other tinctures, the owners of Remedy wanted to make sure their wine bar would be a much needed “remedy” for all types of occasions and wine drinkers. A place for wine novices who want to know more, wine experts who want something different, and people who just want to enjoy a glass, Remedy is the perfect neighborhood wine bar.

4This year, Remedy is helping everyone celebrate Pride Week by offering mimosas and Bowery Bagels on location between 9AM and 12PM. Along with a delicious bagel and schmear, you will be able to enjoy Remedy’s Rainbow Mimosa, which includes OJ, Grapefruit, Mango, Guava, OJ, Lychee, Peach, Pineapple and Jalapeno. Or, if you’re feeling a little more subdued, enjoy a glass of sparkling wine instead.

So grab your rainbow flag and come down to Remedy during this coming Pride Parade! Great company, Bowery Bagels and Rainbow Mimosas? You can’t help but have a great time.

Come have Some Breakfast on the Bridges with Bowery Bagels

PortlandPedalPowerBikeBridgeEverybody loves Breakfast. It’s the meal that sets the stage for the whole day, so you gotta make it count. But sometimes, you have to cut breakfast short if you have a long commute, which means your breakfast might consist of whatever you can grab on the go.

So come enjoy a good breakfast this Friday! May 29th kicks off the first Breakfast on the Bridges, a great service hosted by the Shift community.

On the last Friday of every month during the summer season, Shift hands out pastries coffee, fruit, and sometimes even biscuits and gravy to cycling commuters crossing the bridges. Instead of rushing to get across the bridge, this event gives you a chance to stop for a minute, enjoy some good food, and take in the scenery from one of Portlands many bridges. This Friday, May 29th, you will find them on Steel bridge(esplanade east side), Hawthorne bridge (westbound off ramp), and Burnside bridge(east end, westbound) starting at 7:15 AM.

Portland Pedal Power will be there, so come say hi! We will have some delicious baked goods from Bowery Bagels, paired with some of their fantastic Schmears. This way, you can leave for the office on time AND enjoy a delicious breakfast before headed over the bridge. A great Breakfast with a great view of PDX. Couldn’t be better!

Advertise with Style, like Bowery Bagels!

There’s nothing like a steady relationship. We wrote about our partnership with Bowery a few months ago, and find it still holds true today! Check out how we are a perfect match:

There’s something beautiful about symbiotic relationship. Whether it be the honeybee and the flower, the Clownfish and the Sea Anemone, or the Shark and Remora, partnerships between two parties can bring about some wonderful results. At Portland Pedal Power, we are very lucky to have quite a few partnerships that would even make a honeybee jealous.

Take for example our great relationship with Bowery Bagels! Bowery has been serving Portland since March of 2012, with with delicious bagels and schmears for sale at more than 80 retail locations. Once they opened their own storefront, Bowery reached out to PPP to fulfill their delivery needs and, as they say, the rest is history.

Bite the Big Apple With Bowery Bagels!

photo_deliveryA New York style bagel: Right off the bat, you might think it would be pretty difficult to find such a baked good around here. After all, Portland can’t get much farther away from the Big Apple.

How could Portland, Oregon, found about as far west of New York as you can get (About 3,000 miles worth!), create such a classic symbol of the metropolis?

Never fear, skeptical bagel connoisseur, for a hero appears within our very city! Bowery Bagels is Portland’s premier New York style bagel bakery and sandwich shop. The hand rolled bagels are boiled and then baked, resulting in an authentic, lightly crisp, chewy bagel.

Their bagels are particularly delicious with any of  Bowerys house made cream cheese schmears: plain, smoked salmon, fresh herb, roasted vegetable, BOM.com (bacon-onion-mushroom), and several vegan options.

They offer breakfast bagel sandwiches in the morning, and a delicious selection of lunch sandwiches, made from scratch soups, and salads. All the meats, sausages and bacon, are roasted and cured in our kitchen.

Make sure you start your morning off right, or get yourself pumped for a second wind at the office: Get yourself something delicious from Bowery. We take care of the hard work, and all you have to do is meet up with us, grab your meal, and get a taste of New York. Our Bowery-toting bikes have got your back.

Join Us at 2014 Providence Bridge Pedal!

Bridge Pedal ColinEach year on the second Sunday in August, Providence Bridge Pedal closes Portland’s Willamette River bridges to car traffic so they can be fully enjoyed by bike! From Sellwood to St. John’s, and even on the Fremont and Marquam highway bridges, it’s once-a-year opportunity to enjoy the views of Portland and the beautiful surrounding area without worrying about getting sideswiped by a minivan.

This year, the Portland Pedal Power team will be riding Bridge Pedal in full force, with nine riders hitting the Willamette River bridges on our delivery bikes decked out with active advertising for Bowery Bagels, Walz Caps, Point West Credit Union and more! We’re going to be offering all kinds of swag, so when you see our fleet, make sure you take a minute to say hello and we’ll make sure to send you on your way with something awesome.

If you need a quick carb recharge before the ride, we’ve got you covered. Our Bowery Bagels bike is going to be packed full of free bagel samples to fill you up at the starting line for the 6 Bridge Ride. We’ll also have free coffee cards from Bowery, who stock their shelves with some of Portland’s favorite grounds from Stumptown Coffee.

If you’re looking for some swag, ask us about our Walz Caps. We have some awesome caps we are itching to hand out, and you might find yourself with a custom designed PPP hat that can keep your head cool as you sweat on the Burnside.

We’ll also be promoting our partnership with Point West Credit Union and the Community Cycling Center, giving you a perfect opportunity to support the CCC and a chance to win a $250 Visa gift card from Point West! Check our previous blog and the Point West Facebook Page for more details and be sure to snap of a photo of yourself with a PPP rider at the top of the Fremont Bridge. Can you think of a better opportunity to capture the perfect Portland cycling shot? We’ll have the Point West Bikes riding up and down the bridges, and can you think of a better photo opportunity than at the top of the Fremont Bridge?
