Celebrating Earth Day with USAgencies Credit Union

11024108_430426627118881_1557199712_nEarth Day in Portland is something special. It gives us a chance to reflect on how we conserve resources, plant a tree for future generations, and celebrate healthy living and green technologies.

That’s why we always get so excited for Earth Day at Portland Pedal Power. We are all about sustainability and green technology. Having a day dedicated to promoting that kind of lifestyle is a great opportunity to tell everyone about why we love to deliver by bike!

To help promote traveling on two wheels, Portland Pedal Power is going to be at the Edith Green Building this coming Earth Day, April 22nd, with USAgencies Credit Union. USAgencies offers a great bicycle loan program, ensuring you have the ability to get the bicycle of your dreams. Whether you need a cargo bike to move some serious weight, a road bike to get you around the city, or a city bike for some laid back cruising over the weekend, USAgencies wants to get you the bike that suits you best.

Come say hi to us on the 22nd! We will have some delicious treats from one of our vendors and will be talking about our awesome Pyxis cargo box, the many uses of cargo bikes, and all the benefits you can get by incorporating cycling into your daily commute.

We’re Looking for a Surly Big Dummy!

Ok, so it’s not quite what the title may sound like, but it’s true! Portland Pedal Power is looking for a proud owner of a Surly Big Dummy cargo bike. We’re looking to finalize the mounting process and hardware to ensure super easy attachment of the Pyxis to the Big Dummy frame.

We would keep you abreast of what we’re doing with your Big Dummy, keep the bike safe and secure, and of course if you need your ride back for a day or two to grab some groceries or help a friend move some boxes across town, we can always accommodate your needs.

We know letting someone borrow your cycle may be a little stressful. If you let us borrow your bike for a couple of weeks, we would be happy to pay back the favor! We can offer you a free lunch delivered to you within our delivery zone each day of the work week, a stylin’ PPP t-shirt, and a family/friend discount for the entire time you let us use your bike.

Do you happen to have a Big Dummy? Interested in taking us up on the offer? Shoot us an email at [email protected], or let us know through Facebook and Twitter, and we can give you some more information!

Park the Car, Grab a Bike!

At Portland Pedal Power, we like to think we’re ahead of the curve. So when I heard that the country is starting to shift from SUVs to cargo bikes, I couldn’t be more excited. The Oregonian recently published an article claiming the use of cargo bikes is starting to pick up steam in our cities, all the way from Portland Oregon to Portland Maine.

For some, switching from your 4-wheel drive SUV to a two wheel cargo bike might come across as a big switch. However, if you think about it, a cargo bike can do a lot of the things your typical car can do: you can take the kids to school(Be Safe!), grab some groceries from the local market and run some errands, all without needing to look for parking or fill up on gas.

There are a lot of different kinds of cargo bikes to choose from, should you want to make this switch. Splendid Cycles, a local manufacturer of cargo bikes, offer models like the Bullitt Cargo Bike, a Danish created, light weight front loader. They also offer the Metrofiets Cargo Bike, a locally made, hand built cargo bike designed to carry anything you may need. Splendid Cycles also carries a few brands of longtail bikes, very similar to the tried and true workhorse of Portland Pedal Power.

The Pyxis Story, Part Three: Portability

Portland Pedal Power PyxisOver the past couple weeks, we’ve been giving our followers a behind the scenes look at the development of the Pyxis, the cargo bike enclosure that we use to deliver food and all kinds of other products to businesses in Portland. Portland Pedal Power founder and co-owner Ken Wetherell was kind enough to share his insights on The Pyxis Story, giving some background on where the idea came from and where we’re going with it. This week, you’ll see the final piece in this chapter of The Pyxis Story. So take a look at The Pyxis Story, Part Three: Portability to get one more look behind the curtain at Portland Pedal Power.

And in case you missed them, check out Part One: The Concept and Part Two: Improvements to get caught up!

The Pyxis Story, Part Two: Improvements

Portland Pedal Power PyxisLast week’s interview with Portland Pedal Power founder and co-owner Ken Wetherell was just the beginning of the The Pyxis Story. This week, you’ll hear from Ken about the improvements that have been made to turn the Pyxis into what it is today. So take a look at behind the scenes at the PPP headquarters in Southeast Portland and enjoy The Pyxis Story, Part Two: Improvements.

And in case you missed it, check out last week’s video to get caught up: The Pyxis Story, Part One: The Concept

The Pyxis Story, Part One: The Concept

Portland Pedal Power PyxisHave you ever wondered how we came up with the design for the Pyxis, the enclosure that we use to deliver delicious food to local businesses all over Portland? Well, here’s your chance to take a look behind the scenes at Portland Pedal Power. The team recently built a new Pyxis, number seven in our ever-growing fleet, and this time, we documented the process while interviewing Ken Wetherell, PPP’s founder and co-owner and a cargo bike enthusiast. So take a look at The Pyxis Story, Part One: The Concept to learn more about how the Pyxis evolved from an idea into a finished product.
