Wintertime Winners:

  • Soup is the classic comfort food. Our friends at Supa have a mean Thai Ginger Chicken that is perfect for a cold winter day, along with plenty of other great flavors.
  • Pacific pie has some amazing pies, both sweet and savory, that will make you feel like you’re back at your grandma’s on Christmas Eve!

  • Any time of the year is a good time for sandwiches, but with the cold winds a blowin’, let a hot sandwich warm you up. Charlie’s Deli and Theo’s have what you need!
  • Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say… bring some sunshine to these cold winter days by ordering Ate-Oh-Ate Hawaiian Favorites!
  • Hot tamales! Be a holiday hero by ordering the office Tamale Boy or Mi Mero Mole.

Happy Holidays from Buddy!

There are plenty more great foods out there to warm you up this winter. Feel free to reach out for suggestions if you are stumped on what to serve for your holiday celebrations. Donate Toys and We’ll Deliver!

toy-1-1

Just some of the many bikes donated last year!

The KGW Great Toy Drive, a collection event for more than 30 years, takes place now through December 17th. The campaign collects new, unwrapped toys for less fortunate families in Oregon and SW Washington. All donated toys will be distributed with the help of 120 local nonprofit organizations and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

The KGW Great Toy Drive has hundreds of drop-off locations throughout the region. Toys can be donated at the main KGW studios located at 1501 SW Jefferson Street in downtown Portland, Regence offices, Wells Fargo locations, local Toyota Dealerships and nearly 300 other participating partner locations. For a complete list of locations, please visit KGW.com/toy.

Portland Pedal Power will work with offices who want to be drop-off locations. We will be delivering and carting as many toys to KGW as we can!

2016 donated toy delivery in action

“The KGW Great Toy Drive is an event that truly brings out the best in our community. Every year we’re humbled by the outpouring of giving from the public,” said DJ Wilson, president and general manager of the KGW Media Group.  “We’re especially grateful to Regence, Wells Fargo and the local Toyota Dealers, who continue to join with us to help needy families bring joy to their children on Christmas morning.”

Due to the generosity of the public and the commitments from many local area businesses to collect toys on behalf of the KGW Great Toy Drive, more children will enjoy a happier holiday season.

Let Whole Foods do the Prep Work!

Optimized-edited_WFBikePlanning for the holidays can induce a lot of stress. You have to get the decorations up, clean the house, plan the trip, brace yourself for relatives… and on top of that, you have to have a hot meal ready to go.

It all stacks up on itself, really. Who has time to enjoy the eggnog?

While we can’t remove the stress that comes with the in-laws, we can offer hot, delicious holiday foods fresh from the oven. Whole Foods is optimizing their holiday menu, ensuring that while you can do all of the prep work yourself, you don’t have to. Whole Foods has created a menu catering to your every need, whether you’re a carnivore, an herbivore, or somewhere in between.

If you go for a more traditional holiday meal, try one of the traditional Holiday Dinners, including a fully cooked Diestel Turkey, Herb Stuffing, Fresh Green Beans, Turkey Gravy, and Dinner rolls.

More of a Tofurky kind of person? No problem! Go Vegan with a Wild Rice Cranberry Fig Roast, Acorn Squash, Mushroom Gravy, and Vegan Pumpkin Pie.

Whole Foods also offers salads, breads, and other assorted side dishes to perfectly accentuate your ideal holiday sit-down.

These meals can cater to 8 people, though if you’re looking for something more intimate, Whole Foods also offers the intimate holiday dinner, serving 4.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, Whole Foods will make sure it’s delicious.

Wilamette Week Makes Giving Easier!

TGG-2012-Logo1he Holidays have the ability to bring out the best of people. We make an extra effort to reach out to the community during the holiday season, making sure everyone gets a little joy in their life.

This year, Wilamette Week is making it easier to give back to the community. WW has hand-selected 136 great Portland nonprofits that need your help this holiday season. This helps make it easy for you to make a donation – and a connection – to groups in your community. What you give today will help make Portland a better place all year long.

This guide doesn’t just cater to a small portion of the community, either. Whether you’re a health nut, an animal lover, or a patron of the arts, or all three, WW has a way you can help out the community. Choose from a variety of nonprofits benefiting animals, education, arts, the environment, health and wellness, and other alternatives.

And the best part is, the more you give, the more you get back! Donating at any level, and you’ll receive free and discounted products from your favorite local brands, like Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Chinook Book, Portland Center Stage, Widmer Brothers, and more!

Give Guide also features Big Give Days. Donating a minimum of $10 to any organization on one of these days, and you have a chance to win a great incentive. The next Big Give Day is December 2nd, with a Bike Gallery Bike giveaway.

On top of that, you can also take place in the McMenamins Challenge! Nonprofits with the most individual donors 35 and under in each category will be awarded $1000!

Help make Portland a better place for the whole year round by giving a little extra this season. With incentives like these, everybody can celebrate the season!

Christmas is a Week Away! Are You Ready?

Christmas Eve is just a seven days away, and if you’re anything like me, you may be kicking yourself for putting off your Christmas shopping until now. If you suffered a slight panic attack like I did this morning, have no fear! Portland Pedal Power has your back, and we’ve got a lot of great ideas you may want to consider!

Treehouse Chocolate: We wrote about Treehouse Chocolate in the past and if you remember, we are really excited about the varieties and flavors founder Aaron Koch is offering. Aaron brings chocolate back to its roots, using healthy alternatives and premium organic cacao to bring out the flavor of the chocolate. Portland Pedal Power is offering a chance to deliver a Gift Pack to friends and family in the Portland area! The Gift Pack includes a chocolate bar, a mousse, a bottled drink, and a To/From note, so it can be easily gifted by bicycle. Call or email us for more information on delivery. (more…)
