SCOOOORE! PPP Voted Best Delivery in Portland

Best of WinThe people have spoken! Portland Pedal Power was voted Best Delivery last week in the Willamette Week Best of Portland issue. We beat out services like Postmates, Delivery Dudes, and Caviar for the win. Just goes to show that Portlanders like to keep it local. We are more than a sustainable homegrown company, we deliver from only the best local vendors and we pride ourselves on excellent, responsive customer service. We’ve built the service from the ground up, constantly improving, since 2009. We’re a startup that never stops!

Our win caught the eye of local newscaster Keely Chalmers of KGW News and she called us up Thursday morning for a news segment that came out AWESOME! Check it out. Producers snapped a GoPro on one of our delivery bikes and caught some great footage of us zipping around town during a busy lunch rush.

KGW was particularly interested in our commitment to sustainable delivery, picking up on the fact that our bike deliveries save approximately 11 metric tons of C02 every year.

Just today we delivered about 700 meals to hungry locals, featuring big orders from vendor favorites such as Tamale Boy, Pacific Pie Company, Garden Bar, Cha! Cha! Cha!, and Aprisa Mexican Cuisine.

We are proud to be appreciated for our delivery services in one of the best cities for food in the US. We are gonna keep riding, keep dishing up the goods, and making the best delivery even better.

Thanks, Portland, for the love!

Bowls of the Gods from Kure Juice Bar. Heavenly!

You’re craving summer eats and we’ve got ’em! We deliver and cater from the best local spots, here’s a quick run down of some of our faves:

For a healthy cool pickup, order the aptly named and absolutely craveable Bowl of the Gods from Kure Juice Bar, along with any of their fresh juices or smoothies. For snacky meetings and events, we’ll bring you and your crew lush crudité trays and lunch platters from World FoodsZupans, or Green Zebra Grocery.

Choose from healthy fresh salads from Garden Bar or Súpa Sustainable Urban Deli, or Mediterranean fare from HabibiAybla Mediterranean Grill, and Wolf & Bear’s. For savory and sweet pies and my favorite kale slaw around, check out the awesome menu at Pacific Pie Company.

Fresh crudité trays from Zupans

If you’re in the mood for heartier fare, big meaty sandwiches from Charlie’s Deli never fail to satisfy. In Hawaii it is always summer so order mouth watering Kalua Pig plates from Ate-oh-Ate.

Get on the bowl bandwagon and order bowls of fresh goodness from Whole Bowl, Café Yumm! or Cha! Cha! Cha! As far as fresh and addictive goes, we are always craving the perfectly cooked chicken and rice with that ginger sauce from Nong’s Khao Man Gai. You know THAT ginger sauce. Pretty sure I’d like to pour that over everything I eat, forever.

Of course, it wouldn’t be summer without homemade local ice cream! Grab some ice cream sammies or specialty flavor tubs from Ruby Jewel.

Seize the summer and get it delivered by bike!

Pi Day Piestravaganza

pi-pieCalling all geeks and nerds, math enthusiasts, and lovers of fruit filled pastry — Pi Day is coming! Do you want to save exactly $3.14 on all your Pi Day delivery orders? Of course you do. Do you want to surprise your office with gorgeous locally made sweet pies or savory pizza pies? The answer is 3.141592653589793238462643… AKA: YES!

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159 (ect.). Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits. Or you can just eat some pie and think about how lovely it would be to have an infinite amount of pie. Pie infinity.

Every year we max out on pie deliveries on March 14th. So get your orders in soon!

Dinner at Pacific Pie Company: What a Treat!

Mushroom and Beef. Mmm...There are some things you can only experience in PDX. We’ve got bridges up the Wassu, the Made in Oregon sign, the Rose Festival, and the Swift Watch in September.

This last week I had the opportunity to go see the Swifts do their nightly dance out at Chapman Elementary, and it was a sight to behold. We were running a bit early, so we decided to drop by Pacific Pie Co. for an early dinner.

We sat down and quickly discovered just how  indecisive we are, especially when confronted with such a tempting menu. We went back and forth from their Sandwiches to Entrees to Sausage Rolls, and finally decided that since we were eating at Pacific Pie Co., we simply must try their pies.

To start off, We decided to try the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Meatballs, which came out in a delicious creamy sauce and soft pita bread. It was certainly spicy, and I found myself trying to steal a little more than my half of the plate.

I decided on the Beef and Mushroom Pie along with the Rhubarbarian Cider. The pie itself was delicious, and has a great Onion Gravy. My only regret was I didn’t order two.

My compatriot went for the Thai Green Curry Chicken Pie, cooked with green coconut curry sauce, zucchini, bell peppers, and cilantro. If this isn’t making your mouth water, I don’t know what will.

And oh lord, the pie crust: I have not enjoyed such a good crust since grandmas apple pie of my childhood. The Appetizer!

Afterwards we grabbed a Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart Pie to enjoy as we watched the Swifts tumble into their home. Never have I been more content at watching birds than with a Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart pie.

So as we continue to enjoy the fall weather, be sure to treat yourself this fall! While the official Audubon Swift Watch technically ended September 30th, there’s no reason you can’t drop by Pacific Pie Co. for a great dinner. Or if you feel like staying indoors, drop us a line! We can bring some of your favorites right to your door.

Post Your Pi(e)!

You don’t have to be a Mathematician to appreciate Pi Day! Most of us were required to take a bit of math in school, and depending on our experience in that class, Pi can either bring back  fond memories or flashbacks of darker times. Whether you can recite Pi out to two hundred digits, or whether you had to Google why I didn’t use an “e” for Pi Day, I think we can all recognize one thing:

Pie is delicious!

That’s why for this upcoming Pi Day (March 14th, 3.14… get it?) Portland Pedal Power and Pacific Pie are teaming up and challenging you to Post Your Pi(e) on Facebook! We want to see how creative you can get by posting a picture of your Pi(e), whether it’s your favorite homemade slice of pie, a pie shaped like pi, a mathematical masterpiece of fine cuisine… whatever Pi(e) Day means to you!

Wow us with your artistic skills, and we will return the favor! The top three Facebook posts using the hashtag #PieDay and tagging both Portland Pedal Power and Pacific Pie will win a free sweet pie from Pacific Pie, to be delivered on March 14th by 3pm. Judging will be on creativity, quality, and peoples’ choice through shares and likes. To add a cherry to this sweet deal, just for Posting Your Pi(e), you’ll win a coupon for a free delivery from Pacific Pie, as long as you’re within our delivery area!

Submissions must be posted to Facebook by Wednesday, March 12th at 5pm and both Portland Pedal Power and Pacific Pie must be tagged in your post. Show us what you’ve got!

Think Pie! Aussie Style Pie from Pacific Pie Co.

Now when you were thinking about what you were going to eat for lunch today, I bet pie wasn’t one of the things that crossed your mind.  Well it certainly should be!  I’m not talking about cherry or apple pie here.  I’m not talking about your store bought frozen potpies at 1,000 calories apiece.  I’m talking about hearty, all natural, locally grown, sustainable ingredient meat and vegetarian pies originating from a land down under!  I’m talking about succulent beef and onion with homemade sauce; fresh potpie with all natural organic chicken and vegetables; lamb in a red wine sauce with roasted potatoes, carrots, and yams.  For the vegetarians; red lentils with caramelized onions in coconut milk with Indian spices; chickpeas, yams, carrots, and potatoes in a sauce filled with exotic spices; and curried samosa with turmeric, cumin, and fresh cilantro!

So now that I have your taste buds tingling and have spurred daydreams of succulent savory meat and veggie pies, here is the best part!  You don’t have to leave your desk and fly 16 hours just to experience this Australian delight!  Portland Pedal Power will deliver to you authentic Aussie meat pies from Pacific Pie Co. These are pies made in a true Portland fashion and brought to you by an Authentic Australian!

Going to a Timber’s game?  You can now enjoy Pacific Pie Co.’s pies at Jeld-Wen field while watching your favorite soccer team rip it up this year!  Not going to a Timber’s game, but still craving a good pie?  Pacific Pies will soon be sold at Zupans as well!

Pacific Pie Company makes delicious Australian savory pies, pasties and other Aussie treats. They believe that eating great food is one of the true pleasures of life. But beyond serving up old Aussie favorites, they are a values based business that works to promote sustainability, community, and the ethical stewardship of animals and the earth in everything they do.
