We’re Celebrating 5 Years! Join Us!

PPP 5 Year Invite_Green-page-001

Five years is a big achievement, don’t you think? It’s longer than a president’s term, longer than getting an education at a University and much longer than a standard year on Mars (two Earth years, for the Martian curious).

That’s why the Portland Pedal Power team is very excited to host our Five Year Anniversary Extravaganza on Wednesday, August 13th from 4:30 – 7:30 PM. We’re ready to celebrate, and we hope you can join us!

It seems like yesterday that the business consisted of just four like-minded individuals. Today we’ve grown into quite an operation, with nine additional employees working to provide delivery and active advertising to dozens of clients throughout inner Portland.  From humble beginnings with one delivery bike running out of a garage behind Zupan’s on Burnside, we’re now a fleet of 11, delivering from more than 50 vendors while displaying ads for 10 local companies.

If you so much as signed up for one of our newsletters or read our blog, you helped us on our way to success, and we want to thank you for your contribution! That’s why we want to invite you to our Five Year Anniversary Extravaganza, where we’ll kick back and relax with good food and drinks.

If you’ve ever wanted to try something delicious from Bowery Bagels, Pacific Pie Company, Seres Organic Chinese, Brunch Box, Thai Peacok or Theo’s Restaurant, this is your chance. These vendors, and many more, will be supplying a wide variety of the tastes of PDX. And of course, we’ll be supplying drinks on the house, so how could you say no?

We’re hoping to see you next week!

Satisfy your Craves with Crave Catering!

Nothing makes a great party like a great caterer. Get the right kind of food, and people will be talking about it for months. But where do you start looking for a caterer you can trust? Someone who you know will create the right kind of food for your kind of party?

Look no further, folks: Crave Catering has you covered.

Crave offers “a symphony of local ingredients… crafted into mouthwatering food” without sacrificing sustainability. Among their long list of sustainable business practices, Crave visits and supports local farmers markets, uses 100% biodegradable utensils and plates, converts spent oil into bio-fuel, and is a member of the Sustainable Business Network. Crave is so dedicated to providing fresh local food, they even have a farm of their own! As owner Mark Lopez writes:

“The piece of land The Crave Farm is on used to be a 100-acre chicken farm, which means rich, fertile soil perfect for growing the tastiest veggies and herbs. Our delectable produce is always grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or chemicals. These naturally grown vegetables make a short journey from our farm to our clients’ tables.

At the Crave Farm, we have harvested all varieties of delicious summer squash, like patty pan, acorn, butternut, delicata, buttercup, and kabocha as well as yellow and Italian zucchini. In addition, we cultivate an herb garden where we grow, thyme, rosemary, mint, oregano, marjoram, and sage. Last year we planted a small orchard with apples, pears, and figs and we look forward to bountiful harvests in the years to come.”

Friday is Bike to Work Day!

Logo for San Diego BTWD

While we may be some of the lucky few who can ride their bike to work everyday, we recognize the chance to do so may not come so easily to the average daily commuter. Cycling is great exercise, but who has the time? Cycling to work may not be a daily option for you right now, but wouldn’t you love a reason to do it anyway, even just for a special occasion?

It turns out, May 16th happens to be National Bike to Work Day! Instead of grabbing the keys to the four-wheeled cage, why not grab your helmet and cycling gloves instead? The best things in life are better with company, so join all of us who are going to be out on two wheels and experience the freedom only a bike can offer!

Check out some of the events being hosted in Portland for Bike to Work Day:

Go Lloyd Bike to Work Day Party: Start the day off right with a party! Breakfast smoothies, fruit, coffee and other snacks will be available for your tasting pleasure. There will also be live music, free minor bike repair, bike registration and lots of great new and returning vendors. Bike parking is available, so bike straight to the party! The event starts at 7:30 AM and continues until 9:00 AM.

Portland Employers Bike Summit: Come learn how bicycle commuting is an option for anyone! The summit will include a Keynote address from Commissioner Steve Novick, a few expert workshops, some post-workshop group facilities tours, and a post-workshop happy hour! The Summit starts at 1:00 PM and lasts until 4:00 PM.

Bike Ride and Happy Hour: Bike to Work Day ends on a high note, with a bike ride on the east side of Pettygrove Park and a happy hour at Bambuza in South Waterfront.
