Change the World: Order Lunch

eggplantsandwichNew City Kitchen is striving to change the world, offering delicious meals and second chances. We wanted to learn a little more, so we gave them a call and discovered what makes New City Kitchen so awesome:

Want to help change the world? Order sandwiches! New City Kitchen is your one-stop solution for socially responsible lunch catering. We prepare delicious box and sack lunches with tasty sandwiches, fresh (and gluten free) salad rolls, and yummy cookies. Our products have Mediterranean accents, and are flavor-tested by ProChefs Oregon, the local branch of the American Culinary Federation. Customers describe our grub as “tasty,” “really fresh and tasty,” and “fresh and delicious” (did we say tasty?).

NCKemployeeNew City Kitchen is a nonprofit social enterprise that trains and employs people who are looking for a second chance in the workforce. Our mantra is “Hope has a flavor.” When you give people the opportunity they’ve been waiting for, they come alive. They are motivated and inspired to give their very best, and this shows up in the quality of the food they create. At New City Kitchen, we’re giving people hope every day. Try us and see for yourself; you’ll taste it in every bite.

We’re excited about our partnership with Pedal Power because we are all about being the change we want to see in the world. Our social mission is to create delicious food while helping people gain skills and find employment. Having our products delivered by bicycle is environmentally responsible (and fun). We’re working to create a “new city” where people can rise to their full human potential, and Portland Pedal Power is part of that vision.

New City Kitchen is available through our catering menu! Check out what New City is offering for lunch, and you help make the world a better place.

Northwest Rides: Worst Day of the Year

Worst Day PictureAre you feeling the chill of the long Portland winter? How about a little bike ride to warm you up? It’s not too late to join a couple thousand other brave souls in signing up for the Worst Day of the Year Ride, the first ride of the year coordinated by Good Sport Promotion. You must have some questions, so read on for more details!

Who should participate in the Worst Day of the Year Ride?

Anyone who feels comfortable riding 16 miles! And if 16 miles sounds too easy, sign up for the 45 Mile Challenge. Either way, make sure you’re prepared with cold weather and rain gear. It’s called the Worst Day of the Year Ride for a reason.

What should I expect along the way?

A great ride! You’ll have a map of the route and you’ll be backed by road support in the form of ride along mechanics and medics, as well as support vehicles, in case you need a lift. If that’s not enough, there’s always the food factor: There will be coffee and doughnuts in the morning, warm treats at rest stops every four miles and hot soup and fresh bread at the finish line!

When are these crazy rides happening?
