In cargo bikes, community, food, Fun, Portland

Cirque du CyclingGet your racing legs ready, because this year’s Cirque du Cycling, hosted by Portland Pedal Power vendor Laughing Planet, is happening on Friday, August 9th!

Sponsored by Prost, North Portland Bikeworks, Interurban and Food Services of America, the Cirque du Cycling is a great family friendly event where you can ride, race or just enjoy the food and fun. Festivities start at 4:00, with bike decorating and kids activities at Q Center on N. Mississippi Ave  and a beer garden for the grownups just down the road at Prost. The family and kids ride, a two mile route from Q Center to Peninsula Park and back, kicks off at 5:00, and the races start at 6:00.

Two Cargo Bike races, “Going for the Gold” for the competitive racers and “High Fives and Hugs” just for fun, run three laps up and down Mississippi Ave, picking up cargo on each lap. Cat 1, 2 and 3 Pro Races run for a mile in groups limited to 90 (Cat 1 & 2) and 75 (Cat 3) riders. You can pre-register for your race for $25 or register at the event for $30, and you must have an Oregon Bicycle Racing Association license for the Pro races. If you don’t have a racing license, you can purchase a day pass for $5.00 or an annual membership for $25.00 at the race site. And you’re not spending money for nothing – there are prizes to be had in the Pro Races! Cash prizes from $40 up to $1,000 will be rewarded to top finishers!

So head out to North Portland next Friday for cycling, food and fun! Whether you’re a semi-pro bike racer or looking for a fun night with the family, there’s something for you to enjoy at the Cirque du Cycling!
