Portland is pretty lucky for a number of reasons: We have some great parks, friendly people, innovative thinking, and some of the best foot carts in the world. Portland Pedal Power has the good fortune to deliver for a number of local carts, and you’ve likely ordered from a number of them. So would you turn down a chance to win a years worth of free food? Something tells me the answer is no.
Thus, the Cartathlon returns! Willamette Week is once more sponsoring the local event, giving you the chance to win some of the best food Portland has to offer by eating some the best food Portland has to offer. A win-win scenario if I’ve ever heard of one.
The route will take you all around Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, and North Portland, bouncing back and forth between some of the most famous food cart hotspots. On your quest, you’ll be tasked with solving riddles, finding landmarks, taking photos, completing random tasks, riding Trimet, and of course eating some delectable food.
Points will be given for every successful event, counting towards that ultimate achievement of complimentary annual nutrition (free food!). Prizes will also be awarded for the best costume, the best team name, and more!
Check out this video from the Cartathlon last year to get an idea of what you might expect.
This time, Instagram will play a pivotal role in tallying points, so be sure to download Instagram for iPhone or Android if you want to participate in the event!
You can sign up in teams of five, and the registration fee ($60) covers breakfast snacks, Ninkasi samples, Tri-Met passes, food along the route, Cartathlon swag for each team member, admission to an after-party, and a pint of Ninkasi. Quite the all inclusive deal!
Remember, it’s important to sign up sooner than later, so if you want to register shoot an email to “[email protected]” including your team name, the name of your teams captain, and a daytime telephone number.
