Ah, Mardi Gras. A time for masks, dancing, parades, and enjoying sweet, guilty pleasures. Historically, Mardi Gras was a time for celebrating the good things in life before enduring lent (That thing your grandmother might ask about this time of year). We may not endure fasting for the next forty days like we used to, but traditions die hard. After all, it’s not every day you get to treat yourself to something guilty for the sake of being guilty.

Are you celebrating Fat Tuesday? Well, we just happen to have access to a number of guilty tastes you might want to enjoy:

BBQ Fusion offers rich, melt-in-your-mouth barbeque you don’t want to miss. The slow cooked, labor intensive, no-shortcuts-taken cooking style yields some of the most sinfully good meats you will try this spring, not to mention their homemade spice seasonings, marinades, and sauces.

Steaks 5th Avenue is home of Willamette Weekly “Best-of Award” for their Cheese Steak  for the past 11 years. Let’s be honest, if you’re looking for something to treat yourself with, cheese is likely near the top of your list. Come enjoy some East Coast flavor that will take you straight to the streets of Philly.

Whiffies Fried Pies (the name alone should be tempting) has been introducing Portland to the wonder that is American Style Empinadas. Whiffies offers both savory pies, like their BBQ Brisket & Mozzarella, and sweet pies, such as their Oregon Mixed Berry Combo. Whatever your taste buds desire, Whiffies Fried Pies can answer.

Once you’re done with lunch, who can resist a little desert? It is Fat Tuesday after all…

Delicious Donuts is family owned and have been welcoming Portland in since 2005. They’ve got everything, from your standard Glazed-Raised to the classical Maple Twist to the figurative Bear Claw (and it’s actually shaped like a bear claw!). Delicious Donuts also provides a wide variety of delicious breakfasts, espresso drinks, fruit smoothies, and drinks like Numi-tea.

Cupcake Jones has been making cupcakes since 2007. All of the cakes, fillings, frostings and garnishes are handmade in their Pearl District bakery using locally sourced natural ingredients – right down to those candied rose petals and fresh lemon curd toppings. Cupcake Jones has vegan and gluten free alternatives, so try what you want without worry!
